News for the Itala 1907
Fantastic news for the Itala 1907. It has returned to the UK with a new owner that wants to carry on using it as I used it. Not only that, he has his sights firmly set on the 2028 Peking to Paris.
We have been asked to look after the car and support him with his challenges. As part of this we were asked to take the car on the Flying Scotsman in April 2025.
A few days before the event the car arrived in the workshop to be checked over and was really not suitable to start the event.
We’d got all sorts of ignition problems and the clutch wasn’t working properly. Luckily, I love a challenge and we got to work!
With all the problems sorted, Ed China (wheeler dealers) stepped in at the last minute as the navigator so we could get underway. He is keen to do the Peking to Paris himself in 2028 so wanted to get a feel for what being on an early car would be like for a few days.
The event started in Harrogate on 3rd April finishing at Gleneagles on 6th April. We left Harrogate meandering through the Northumberland countryside, stopping at Slaley Hall. We then carried on through Northumberland into the Scottish borders for a night stop in Edinburgh. The final day we worked our way up into the Scottish highlands finishing at Gleneagles.
On our way we had a few dramas with the car. At one stage we thought we had run out of fuel but it turned out to be a pressure valve that had been messed around with whilst the car was in previous ownership and was permanently leaking air pressure.
The next day, in the early evening, we had another problem! When we stopped the car to refuel, the battery was completely dead. We frantically borrowed some jump leads and a battery and after getting it started, off we went again.
Sunday was, thankfully drama free, and we managed to complete every day under our own steam. We’ll keep you updated with anymore news for the Itala 1907 as and when we get it!
March 2026 - Badawi Rally in Saudi Arabia
We’re off on our travels again! This time we’re in Saudi Arabia for the start of the 2026 Badawi Rally with the 1907 40HP ITALA. An early morning start with 700km to do, leaving the Ritz Carlton Jeddah at 7.15 am, first stop Jeddah F1 circuit. More details and images to follow…
